Sheet metal is simply metal formed into thin and flat pieces. It is one of the fundamental forms used in metal working and can be cut and bend into a variety of different shapes. Significantly, extremely thin pieces of sheet metal would be considered to be foil or leaf and pieces thicker than ¼” or one centimeter can be considered as plate.
Sheet metal is generally produced in sheets less than 6 mm by reducing thickness of a long work piece by compressive forces applied through a set of rolls. This is a process called rolling which started around 1500 AD. Sheet metals are available as flat pieces or as strip in coils. It is characterized by its thickness which is denoted in terms of gauge of metal.
The gauge of sheet metal ranges from 30 gauges to 8 gauges, the higher the gauge, the thinner the metal is. There are many different metals that can be made into sheet metal like Aluminum, Brass, Copper, Cold Rolled Steel, Mild Steel, Tin, Nickel and Titanium etc.
Sheet Metal has processing as:
Stretching
Drawing
Deep Drawing
Cutting
Bending & Flanging
Punching & Sheering
Spinning

FINE BLANKING
The process of Fine Blanking was developed about seventy years ago in Switzerland and around 1960’s imported to Japan.
PRINCIPLE
The Principle of Fine Blanking is based on the principle of hydraulic pressure that plastic deformation of metal is increased by application of high pressure.
FEATURES
Fine Blanking is a fully automated precision metal working stamping process.
Fine Blanking ensure stability regarding production with high quality and precision.
Fine Blanking permits 3-D composite processing including Coining, Semi-Shearing, Bending and Drawing.
ADVANTAGE
There are a number of advantages of fine blanking over conventional metal stamping, with the most important one being that Fine Blanking provides completely consistent dimensional control. This means that metal components produced have a machined like edge quality and extremely high accuracy immediately following the stamping process, without additional machining.
Additionally all holes, profiles, edges, semi-pierces are carried out in one process. At MK, we have complete facility of sheet metal work and fine blanking for which we have a wide range of Press Brake machines up to 250 Tons.
